Vegetable Daliya wheat/jaun/bajra/jawar

2-3 person


1. 1 cup dalia/broken wheat/jaun/bajra/jawar
2. 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
3. 1 inch ginger, chopped
4. 1 green chilies, finely chopped
5. 1 medium sized tomato, finely chopped
6. ½ cup chopped carrots
7.½ cup shelled green peas/fresh
8. 4 cups water
9. 1 tsp cumin
10. 1 tbsp oil or ghee
11. salt as required


1. Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker.
2. Splutter the cumin first in the hot oil.
3. Add chopped onions and sauté till they become transparent.
4. now add chopped ginger, green chilies and sauté for some seconds
5. Add tomato and sauté for 1 minute.
6. now add all the veggies and sauté for 2 minutes.
7. keep stirring
8. Rinse the daliya and add to the veggies.
9. Stir for 3-4 minutes
10. add 4 cups water and salt
11. Stir and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles till the dalia is cooked well.
12. If the daliya has not cooked completely, then add some more water and pressure cook for a few whistles more or cook without the lid till they are softened and you get a porridge like consistency.
13. Garnish vegetable daliya with coriander leaves and serve hot or warm.
